BKS

Hi there and welcome to Alex's Blog. I go on, a lot, about different deals we have offer and go in to detail on items of kit we sell but I wanted to focus on one of our brands this week. I have written another blog about the brand IXS so thought it was about time I wrote another one. This week the lucky brand is BKS.

BKS stands for the initials Brian Keith Sansom who founded BKS in 1986. He started the company from his house as a recent graduate of fashion design. A lucky break of Devon and Cornwall police enquiring about repairs on their motorcycle leathers led to BKS making leathers for the police. In 1988 BKS moved to their own premises.

In 1993 these premises were already too small as BKS now had contracts for nearly twenty police forces accross the UK. The next year CE approval was introduced - BKS were the first company to meet these standards - making BKS a highly esteemed brand throughout the industry. This also made BKS become a favourite of the stars with Hugh Laurie, Daniel Day Lewis, Mark Knopfler, Robbie Williams and even future King, Prince William being spotted wearing it! You can't question the calibre of a brand if royalty are sporting it!

Speaking of royalty, many kings of the British race world have worn BKS. Averitable banquet of the country's biggest stars wore BKS leather suits: Steve Hislop, Michael Rutter, Phil McCallen, Neil Hodgson, Carl Fogarty, Danny Webb, Steve Brogan, Stuart Easton, Gary Johnson, Danny Kent, Tommy Hill, Steve Parrish and James Toseland. If thats not a who's who of great British riders I don't know what is.

In 2004, the BKS brand was acquired by the Frank Thomas Sports Group and went on to develop products with Suzy Perry and Steve Parrish as well as James Toseland.

In 2011 BKS was acquired by none other than us! J&S Accessories Ltd, who have not only continued to manufacture BKS clothing but have added helmets and boots to the BKS repertoire.

All BKS items are designed, here in the UK, and we have been developing the brand to be as high quality as before but with more of a varied selection of items available.

This has seen the brand go from strength to strength in not just the racing side of motorcycle clothing but in the Touring and Enduro product ranges. The BKS Endeavour range, for example, has proven to be a massive success.

We have also released a one-piece ladies leather suit the BKS Dakota Leather 1 piece suit which was designed by a female for females. This has been very well received by our female customers because the fit is great for all women.

This isn't to say we have taken our eye off the racing ball. BKS leathers continue to be of an extremely high standard and we still release premium quality leathers such as the BKS 053 Benicia leather one piece suit.

Each year our designs are tweaked and improved and after a hiatus from sponsoring racing to focus on product contentand quality, BKS are now sponsoring Joe Francis and Ross Twyman. 2017 has proven to be another great year for BKS - here's to many more.

Until next time, stay safe

Alex
