Flipping New Helmets
Hello and welcome to Alex's blog
This week I wanted to focus on the latest flip-front motorcycle helmets and P and J helmets. In a previous blog I have already discussed the definitions of these terms. For a quick recap in the helmet world after successful testing a certification label is given to each helmet.
This certification mark consists of a circle containing the letter E (for the European standard ECE 22.05) The model certification number beginning with 05 (22-05 standard) and then a letter after a hyphen: “J” if the helmet does not have a chin guard, “P” if the helmet has a protective chin guard and “NP” if the helmet has a non-protective chin guard. This new breed of flip-front helmets has both a P and a J making them legal to ride on UK roads with the visor up. Other helmets are not legal to ride with the front of the helmet up in the flipped position.
Normal flip-front helmets without this dual certification are obviously perfectly safe to ride when closed. A lot of bikers prefer to ride when closed anyway, but like the convenience of just being able to open the helmet when not riding for convenience.
As a new motorcycling season starts we have got a great range of these helmets - favoured by the tourers amongst you.
First up is the Frank Thomas FLH01 helmet. This is available in white and matt black. This is lightweight, aerodynamic, has a cool mesh liner and a removable and washable comfort lining.
The Frank Thomas DV06 Graphic motorcycle helmet is the new reincarnation of a best-selling flip-front helmet. The Nolan N100-5 Classic N-Com motorcycle helmet is dual homologated, so you can ride with the helmet in either open or closed position. This has Nolan's exclusive Air-Booster technology system and comes with a Pinlock anti-fog insert and a quick release, yet highly secure retention strap.
The Shoei Neotec 2 motorcycle helmet is also both P and J rated meaning it can be worn legally in the open position when riding. This premium modular helmet has a dual density EPS inner shell for different impact absorption level 2 and is fitted with Pinlock's 'Evo' insert and is pre-prepared for Sena's intercom system.
The HJC RPHA 90 flip-front motorcycle helmet comes in a choice of two colours and has a Multicool interior, lightweight integrated Matrix construction, micro buckle closure system and even has a glasses groove!
The AGV Sport Modular motorcycle helmet is a premium flip-front made from an ultra-lightweight carbon-fibre outer shell with three shell sizes for added aerodynamics and comfort. This also has a fully washable and removable interior and a titanium double D ring retention system.
