Alpinestars Supertech R Black Boots

The Supertech R is well-known the holy grail of motorcycle boots - but is it worthy of this great reputation? Let's see:

Safety

This is going to be a long Paragraph! CE certified to EN 13634:2010, the Alpinestars Supertech R motorcycle boots are iconic race boots made from lightweight yet ultra-durable microfibre. External TPU shin protectors give superior protection alongside replaceable polymer heel plate sliders and separate internal bio-mechanical ankle braces which work with the outer structure of the boot to form a protective system. This system allows full and free movement of the foot, ankle and leg. Integrated replaceable co-injected TPU/Aluminum toe sliders feature easy screw fixing and protect the outer toe box structure from abrasion.

The external TPU shin protection is ergonomically shaped and wraps around to the outer calf and is engineered to spread and dissipate impact energy across the surface while remaining compact. The front flex area is constructed from over-injected TPU on a breathable mesh. The shin plate features micro-adjustable ratchet top closure for a safe and precise fit. Full-length medial-facing microfibre panels give excellent grip and feel against the bike and protect from abrasion and heat.

The zip is made from TPU to reduce friction in the event of a crash. A Velcro tab locks the zip pull closed, keeping it flat and secure. The sole is made from a rubber compound sole and offers excellent grip and feel. The top gaiter follows the leg contour and is made of flexible high-grade synthetic leather reinforced with PU. The Supertech R boot really is a 10/10 on the safety front!

Styling

Designed to be aerodynamic, comfortable and stylish, the Supertech R boot is available in a choice of colours. Alpinestars have managed to fit an obscene amount of safety features on to a boot but not make it look like Fort Knox! The external TPU protectors are both protective but look good, with the Alpinestars logo emblazoned on the front. Other subtle Alpinestars logos are dotted around the boots.

Even the accordion detailing and ventilated areas manage to look stylish! A honeycomb effect on the vents look great, and the accordion stretch detailing is subtle and fits in with the design. Instantly recognisable to those in the know, Alpinestars manage to execute their inimitable style on this boot without compromising on protection nor on features. Worn by many racers such as Cal Crutchlow, Jonathan Rea and Marquez to just name a few, it's appeal knows no bounds!

Comfort

Despite being incredibly safe as well as stylish, the Supertech R boots are exceptionally comfortable too! A separate internal bio-mechanical ankle brace works with the outer structure of the boot to form a protective system. This system allows full and free movement of the foot, ankle and leg. The front flex area is constructed from over-injected TPU on a breathable mesh for superior air circulation for maximum comfort and minimum perspiration!

The shin plate features a micro-adjustable ratchet top closure for a safe and precise fit - personalised to the wearer. In contrast, soft TPU stretch panels on the lateral side give easy closure with the perfect fit. Made from ultra-lightweight microfibre with leather, the sole is also lightweight and made from a rubber compound sole and offers excellent grip and feel.

The Supertech R has superior levels of flexibility with stretch at the Achillies, accordion stretch panels at the entry/exit to allow natural movement and support. The top gaiter follows the leg contour and is made of flexible high-grade synthetic leather reinforced with PU. The freedom of movement the Supertech R boots give you is second to none.

Practicality

Full-length medial-facing microfibre panels give excellent grip and feel against the bike and protect from abrasion and heat. In contrast, soft TPU stretch panels on the lateral sides provide easy closure with the perfect fit.

Negatives

In all honesty, this is the hardest "negatives" section I've ever written! (and the shortest!) In a deep discussion at J&S HQ, we concluded the only negative we could think of about these boots was the fact that they are not 100% waterproof. That is it.

Verdict

If Carlsberg did boots, then this would be the boot they released! An absolutely fantastic boot. Make sure you watch the video above.
