The Frank Thomas Urban Softshell motorcycle jacket is designed for urban riding with subtle styling but premium protection.

Safety

This is CE approved to class-AA with CE approved armour at the shoulders and elbows with hard protectors on the exterior of the jacket as well - a double whammy! (or hopefully not!). This also comes with a pocket for a back protector which can be filled with a CE approved back protector. As the title quite correctly states, this is made from soft shell - which is, as you would expect soft, but is an ultra-durable version for added abrasion-resistance.

Styling

Designed to look good on or off the bike with a muted casual styling. The zip doesn't look like it offers protection from wind or rain ingress but don't let looks deceive you! Under the main zip is another layer of wind protection and another zip to make sure you keep dry without compromising the outside simplicity of the design. The simple, muted aesthetic is a triumph considering the features and protection.

Comfort

The Frank Thomas Urban Soft Shell motorcycle jacket is extremely comfortable. This is lightweight and soft to the touch and the knitted elasticated cuffs and base of the jacket not only keep this close to your body for a personalised fit but also prevent wind/water ingress to keep you comfortable. The quilted inner lining is removable for use in all conditions with a mesh lining underneath to keep you fresh. Soft textile at the collar also provides added comfort.

Practicality

This comes with 2 outer zipped pockets and 2 inner zipped pockets for some handy storage and comes with a short connection zip to attach to Frank Thomas trousers. This is also fully waterproof and has been designed to prevent unwelcome water and wind ingress elsewhere.

Negatives

If you're not a fan of soft shell, then this isn't the jacket for you. That said, this is a thicker version of the fabric so has been more popular with non-converts. Another downside is the collar isn't adjustable. This looks good for the casual styling but can be a bit of a downside as it doesn't offer a personalised fit - but saying that hasn't caused any discomfort on the bike or distraction.
