Frank Thomas Viper
Frank Thomas Viper motorcycle boots are a short trainer style shoe with CE protection - but are they any good? Let's have a look!
Safety
Despite the Frank Thomas Viper boots looking like a pair of trainers, they are actually CE approved to Level 1. You are well protected despite the armour not showing with hidden protection at the heel, toe-box and ankles and an anti-slip rubber sole. Gear change reinforcement pads on each boot provide protection against wear and the soles are also oil-resistant.
Styling
The Frank Thomas Viper motorcycle boots are casually styled short sports boots that could easily pass for trainers. Designed to be used on and off the bike, the Frank Thomas Viper boots are extremely versatile. The lace closure system (with highly durable looping) gives a personalised fit and the laces can be threaded to your own personal taste. Primarily black, there are hints of red and white in a sporty styling at the rear and side of the boots with subtle Frank Thomas branding.
Comfort
Due to its trainer styling, the Frank Thomas Viper boot can be worn all day comfortably, on or off the bike. Made from a suedette material with canvas to provide optimum air circulation for added comfort in warmer weather. These are ultra-lightweight so not a cumbersome boot. The Frank Thomas Viper boots also feature a comfort lining - much like a trainer- for maximum comfort. The lace-closure system means you can adjust to your preferred tightness for variable sizing and comfort.
Practicality
Even though these look casual they are CE approved to Level 1. The sole is anti-slip and oil-resistant and is made from highly durable rubber. This isn't too thick though, so you can feel the gears and walk comfortably all day long. Laces mean you can adjust to your preference of tightness and this can adapt to the thickness of socks etc. As these are made from lightweight suedette with canvas, they give optimum air circulation for added comfort in warmer weather. Another nice practical feature is a handy finger loop at the back for a helping hand for easy entry and exit.
Negatives
So what negatives can we say about the Frank Thomas Viper boots? These are not waterproof. They aren't advertised to be waterproof so this is not a criticism of them per se, but not the boot for you if you want a waterproof boot. The shorter styling isn't for everyone either. Lots of bikers don't feel they are given enough protection without the longer shin protectors. The Frank Thomas Viper boots are CE approved to Level 1 and most motorcycle jeans have longer knee protectors for this to not be a problem, but this is just a personal preference. One other issue is that these boots only come in one colour, black with a hint of red and white. If this colourway doesn't match your bike or your clothes, or even if you don't like them, you don't have any other choice.

For under £50 the Frank Thomas Viper boots are a fantastic buy! The trainer styling makes them double up as a fashionable casual shoe that can be worn off the bike comfortably. The ideal Summer boot - just don't wear if its given heavy rain. The airflow for warmer weather is fantastic and keep you comfortable for long periods of time. Not bad for under £50!
