2022 BSB Round 9 - Oulton Park

Hi everyone, and welcome back to my blog covering this season's British Superbike Championship.

The weekend saw racing come from the sweeping hills and roller coaster of a track which is Oulton Park. Based only a short distance away from our flagship store in Oakmere .

Junior Supersport was first up, and Oliver Morgan-Edwards qualified in 23rd, while Finn Smart-Weeden would start the first race from 10th.

By the end of the race, Oliver moved up to 19th, while Finn held station and came home in 10th place.

The second race saw neither of the J&S-backed riders secured any points, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying, as Oliver came home in 21st and Finn just missed out on the final point by coming home in 16th.

Junior Superstock now and mixed qualifying results for all our riders involved. Zak Shelton would start from 25th, Ed Best ahead in 18th and Jacob Hatch from 14th.

Race one of the of the weekend and a DNF for Jacob, while Zak missed out on points by finishing in 18th while Ed scored the final point by coming home in 15th.

The second race saw roles reversed for the riders, with Ed this time suffering a DNF while Jacob bounced back from the first race but missed out on points by coming home in 17th, while Zak finished in 14th.

British Supersport now, and Harry Truelove was trying to keep his fine form going. Harry started the first race in 8th position in the middle of the third row. Race one and Harry had yet another podium to add to his tally this season with a solid 2nd place finish behind his teammate. The second race and not the result Harry wanted, and he failed to finish and had a DNF next to his name.

Superstock 1000 and a back row start for Lewis Rollo, so he was down in 37th position, next up was Matt Truelove in 25th, then home rider Joe Francis in a well-earnt 7th, championship contender Billy McConnell starting from 5th while Tom Ward would start just ahead in 4th and Charlie Nesbitt on the outside of the front row in 3rd.

By the end of the race, Lewis had managed to work his way up the field and came home in a stunning 11th place, and would finish just ahead of Joe Francis, while Matt would come home in 26th, but at the front, a leading group of 5 riders broke away. Tom dropped off the back of the group and would finish in 5th position, while Billy kept himself in the championship hunt by coming home in 4th, while Charlie Nesbitt made a last-ditch move up the inside of Alex Olsen on the final lap to secure a solid 2nd place finish.

The second race of the weekend and bad luck for Charlie as he failed to finish, Matt missed out on points by finishing in 16th position, Joe had a solid race to come home in 11th, while Lewis was inside the top 10 by coming home in 8th, Tom Ward rounded off a brilliant weekend with another solid 5th place finish. Billy was back on the podium with 3rd place and now sits 2nd in the championship and 26 points behind the leader with 3 races left.

Superbike class and the start of the ‘Showdown’, which will decide who will be the champion for 2022. No Luke Mossey or Dan Jones, as they are both resting up after suffering from injuries in the previous rounds.

So qualifying and races for only Leon Jeacock and Glenn Irwin. Leon would start the first race of the weekend from 25th; meanwhile, title fighter Glenn started from 9th back on the third row.

Well, the race was pretty quiet up until the final lap of the race, Glenn was in the second group of riders and was slowly picking them off and made his way up to 6th place, and then an incident involving Peter Hickman and Jason O’Halloran had Glenn moved up to 4th position overall. Meanwhile, Leon pulled into the pits and failed to finish.

Race two and that saw a couple of red flags and restarts, but Leon missed out on points by coming home in 16th while Glenn once again came home in 4th and missed out on the final podium place.

The third and final race saw another good result from Leon, who came home in 19th position, and finally, the hard work paid off for Glenn as he has a fantastic 2nd place to keep his championship hopes alive.

Well, that’s all from me for now, but no rest for the riders or teams as they move onto Donington Park for the second round of the showdown. Racing takes place over the weekend of 30th September.

So until then, thanks for reading.
