J&S Supported Rider Results - Round 5 Donington Park

Hi everyone, and welcome back to my blog with all the results from the latest round of the British Superbike Championship.

Action coming thick and fast now, with the latest round coming from Donington Park and the shorter National circuit.

This past weekend, a full card of support classes were also in action, so let’s get straight into the roundup.

In the Honda Talent Cup, Sullivan Mounsey was looking to build on a great weekend last time out. Sullivan managed to qualify in 10th place for his first race of the weekend. In the first race, Sullivan came home in 9th place and set a lap time fast enough to secure 13th on the grid for race two. In race two, Sullivan managed to gain one place from his starting grid spot and cross the line to come home in 12th. Another great weekend and more championship points.

In Supersport and GP2, Dan Jones was back the GP machine and Ben Currie and Rhys Irwin in the Supersport class.

Qualifying saw Dan start from 20th on the grid with Ben in 2nd on the front row and Rhys on row 4th in 12th place.

Race one saw Dan finish 17th overall but 5th in the GP2 class with Rhys, unfortunately having a DNF next to his name. Meanwhile, Ben just missed out on the final podium place with a great 4th place finish.

Race two saw another DNF for Rhys who’s luck is bound to change at some point, Dan this time crossed the line in 9th overall, and that bagged him another 5th place in the GP2 class. Meanwhile, Ben missed out on the race win by crossing the line in 2nd place and missed out on the win by 0.041 seconds!!!

Superstock 1000 was as close as ever with Billy McConnell in the championship hunt and Luke Mossey, Fraser Rogers and Lewis Rollo. In qualifying, Luke Mossey was furthest up the grid in 2nd place with Fraser Rogers behind in 3rd with Billy McConnel in 4th, whilst Lewis Rollo was down in 22nd place. However, not all was lost for the young Scots man as he managed to battle back in the race to finish in 3rd place and stand on the podium, Billy crossed the line in 9th position, with Fraser Rogers in 5th, but Kawasaki rider Luke Mossey took the race win and claimed the 25 points on offer.

Race two saw a DNF for the first time for Billy McConnell and another strong outing for Lewis, who finished in 9th place. Fraser continued his recent good form to grab 3rd on the podium, while Luke Mossey finished 2nd and won another championship point. It’s very tight in the championship now, with only 6 points covering the top six riders.

In Junior Supersport, we had Osian Jones, Zak Shelton racing alongside Christopher Johnson. Qualifying saw Osian get the better starting place out of all the J&S supported riders with a 5th place grid spot, with Zak Shelton in 10th place and teammate Christopher down in 29th.

IN the first race, Osian was taken out by another rider and scored a DNF, whilst Christopher came home in 24th place, and teammate Zak bagged himself 6th once the race had finished.

The second race saw the same bad luck for Osian, who again was taken out. Zak came home in 5th place to add to his championship tally. Christopher gained places through the race and crossed the line in the 22nd. The footage of Osian's crash does show how well the Frank Thomas Podium suit works.

Junior Superstock saw Louis Valleley and Caolan Irwin in action this weekend. Louis got the upper hand on Caolan by qualifying in 7th place, with Caolan behind in 11th. The only race saw Caolan finish down in 17th and outside the points, with Louis in 10th place overall.

The final class is the Superbike class, mixed qualifying for the riders with Joe Francis down in 25th place. Gino Rea made it into 10th on the grid whilst Glenn Irwin started outside the front row in 3rd.

The first race saw Joe have a DNF, Gino grabbed the final points-scoring place with a 15th place finish, but it was Honda rider Glenn Irwin who stood on the second step of the podium to continue his good form, Donington Park. Unfortunately, race two wasn’t much to write home about as all three J&S backed riders had DNF’s. Glenn has a crash and damaged his shoulder, which turned out to be a dislocation.

The third and final race saw great results all around for the J&S riders. Gino crossed the line in 10th place. Joe Francis had his best result in the Superbike class with a great 5th place finish which is nothing more than he and his BMW team deserve. Meanwhile, the medical team did a great job on Glenn, who was declared fit to ride in the final race and rode a great race to grab another podium place with a well earned 2nd place!!

So that’s all for this week. The action won't stop there with the next round coming up this weekend from Cadwell Park and the fan favourite ‘Mountain’ section. The action starts on Friday 20th August all the way through to Sunday 22nd. So until then, stay safe and thanks for reading.
