Dainese Bora Air Tex Motorcycle Jacket

Safety

The Dainese Bora Air Tex Motorcycle Textile Jacket is designed for summer riding. This is made from a high tenacity mesh fabric to keep you cool with maximum airflow but this is highly durable and impact resistant. The Bora Air jacket also has integrated reflective inserts for night visibility and removable Pro-Armor protectors (1621.1 standards) on elbows and shoulders as well as pockets for double chest protector (Pro-Armor only) and G1 and G2 back protector. (Available separately) It is mesh throughout aside from areas of impact for added durability.

Styling

The Dainese Bora Air Tex features the famous Dainese Italian styling with subtle design details and fashionable colour combinations. There are three colour options available from J&S Accessories Ltd - Black Fluo Red , Black White and finally the hi-viz, and therefore rather eye-catching Black and Yellow . The ergonomic design provides a sporty feel - yet this is also designed for touring. The sport-cut collar looks and feels great and the contrast pockets give a subtle nod to the accompanying colours but the designs aren't too garish. A Dainese logo in the bright colour on the inside of the arm finishes off this sporty but stylish aesthetic. Subtle Dainese branding elsewhere finishes off the look.

Comfort

With its main mesh construction, the Bora Air Tex jacket is designed primarily for comfort in warmer weather. It is extremely lightweight - it can easily pack away and be no hindrance in your luggage and really is a breath of fresh air (pardon the pun) in hot weather. It fits well and therefore sells well! The mesh liner keeps you cool and fresh and the sports collar is extremely comfortable. The armour is pliable for a comfortable ride yet still protective to CE 1621.1 standards. Adjustability at the wrists and waist provide a personalised fit and optimum comfort in the riding position along with the ergonomic design.

Practicality

The most practical feature is, of course, its mesh construction. Optimum airflow and maximum comfort in hot weather. More durable material in impact areas provide more sturdy abrasion resistance for added safety. Adjustability at the waist and the cuffs provide a personalised fit and two zipped outer pockets give handy storage. As the Dainese Bora Air Tex jacket is so lightweight, it can be packed compactly - ideal to carry in a backpack on a day out, or in luggage on a touring trip. It can be worn both on a sports or touring bike thanks to the versatile design and the splashes of colour in the designs provide added visibility - always a plus on a motorcycle!

Negatives

To be honest, if you're buying this jacket and expecting it to be waterproof and ideal for the cold weather then what are you thinking? This is specifically for warm weather. Nothing else. It is not waterproof and not windproof. If you want both of those things, then this jacket is not for you. We have plenty that caters to your needs but this is not it. One drawback to the Dainese Bora Air Tex jacket is that it doesn't come with a back protector, nor chest protectors. These are available, the pockets are there ready for them, but they do not come with the jacket. There is also no connection zip - which isn't uncommon with a mesh jacket, to promote airflow and circulation, mesh jackets often don't zip on to trousers to keep the air moving. There are no adjusters on the arms for a tight fit for the elbow armour, again, this is common in mesh jackets to provide optimum airflow, so not unusual, but it could be distracting if the jacket didn't fit well on your arms. Another gripe is that each colourway is mainly black. It seems a little strange for black to be the main colour on jackets designed predominantly for hot weather - black holds on to heat and can make you warm, although very unlikely with how much mesh is on this jacket. Also, first thing in the morning on warm days when there are no clouds it can be a little chilly in the mornings. The Bora Air Tex jacket doesn't have any windproofing so just bear that in mind - you may want to wear a base layer with it just to stop any chills in the morning!

Verdict

If you're looking for a lightweight Summer jacket that looks great and fits well, then this is the jacket for you. It is available in three colour choices , is ultra-lightweight and gives great protection. If you are looking for a jacket that offers waterproofing, windproofing and lots of other features for different weathers, then look elsewhere. It's hot or not with this jacket.

Until next time, stay safe,

Alex
