Frank Thomas Renegade Covec Denim Jeans
Safety
Frank Thomas has collaborated with Covec - the famous fabric company that manufactures extremely robust and durable textile engineered to meet and exceed rigorous use. Incorporating Covec yarns into the structure of the denim, the FT Renegade Covec jeans are CE AAA-rated in accordance to EN17092-2 these jeans have CE level 2 armour at the hips and knees. The Covec denim is rated to 75kph and the Renegade jeans are reinforced throughout the 'high-risk zone 1 areas' of the seat, hip and knees with Covec "LITE" (rated to 120kph) giving high-performance AAA abrasion resistance should you ever need it. A sparkling and comprehensive safety review there for the Renegades.
Styling
Available in a choice of two colours, black and dark blue, the Renegade offers a slim fit leg. They fit well and are not loose. The styling is fashionable with a classic five-pocket jeans design. The protection isn't glaringly obvious should you just look at someone wearing them - these are designed to look casual and look good on or off the bike. The armour is removable should you want to wear them without it.
Comfort
A super-thin liner wicks away moisture making these jeans comfortable in all conditions. The stretch in the fabric not only makes them comfortable to wear in the riding position but allows for more freedom of movement off the bike too - and makes these easy to wear for long periods of time. The straight leg isn't so skinny that it cuts off your circulation but isn't baggy so as to flap around when you're going at higher speeds. The belt loops mean you can wear with your favourite belt and the armour is ultra-comfortable when in the riding position - or walking - and removable if needs be.
Practicality
The most practical feature of the FT Renegade Covec jeans is the fact that Covec fabric is used throughout for an ultra-durable construction. The armour is removable, the lining wicks and breathes to keep you comfortable in all conditions, plus these are washable to keep you fresh. They are also available in a choice of leg lengths (Regular or Short) and from 30-inch waist up to 40-inch waist.
Negatives
Despite the fact that denim jeans are usually a Summer choice, the Renegades do retain heat. Ideal for most British Summers but on absolutely scorching days between the beating sun and a throbbing engine, you could end up a little warm. Also, when you clean these jeans, because of the quality of the fabric, they can take some time to dry. Be aware of this if you need them urgently! There are two choices of colour but they are both on the dark side - black or dark blue. If you're looking for stone-washed denim (although I don't know if any of Status Quo are reading this) then this isn't the jean for you.
Verdict
Equivalent versions in brands more known for their denim motorcycle jeans would be at least £50 more. The Frank Thomas Renegade Covec jeans offer a high level of protection with premium construction for a much fairer price. Exclusive to J&S Accessories Ltd.
Until next time, stay safe,
