Safety

Like all helmets capable of being ridden on the UK (and European) roads and tracks, the Just1 J38 Rockstar MX motorcycle helmet is ECE 22 05 approved and features an ACU Gold sticker for racing. In addition, it offers a lightweight and highly durable thermoplastic external shell and an ultra-secure double-D closure system for maximum safety.

Styling

Just1 has worked in collaboration with Rockstar Energy Drinks, so the colourway and logos reflect this. Luckily, the black, yellow, red and white graphics look great together with yellow highlights. In addition, the shell of the J38 helmet is aggressive in aesthetic (and aerodynamic in use!), and the peak can be positioned to your personal preference. Finally, an extensive ventilation system throughout the helmet means there are plenty of vents and outlets. Still, these are nicely incorporated into the helmet design with some silver mesh on show at the front of the helmet, but most other vents are nicely hidden with the design. Even the mesh inner lining gets in on the design! Most other helmets have boring interiors featuring one colour. Just1 has really made a feature of the lining incorporating the black and yellow theme throughout this, too, with bits showing in black and yellow at the front.

Comfort

As the J38 is lightweight, it is extremely comfortable to wear. The anatomically designed inner lining is removable and washable and is mesh covered to keep you fresh at all times. The ventilation system is extremely comprehensive, with twelve front inlets for superior air circulation and six rear exhaust vents for optimum air release. This ventilation combined with the mesh liner provides superior comfort. The peak is adjustable to find the best fit for you, and the double D ring closure system is highly secure but can also be adjusted to your personal preference.

Practicality

The comfort lining and cheek pads are removable and washable, and the helmet interior is anatomically designed for the perfect fit. The peak is adjustable for a personalised fit, and the helmet's rim offers protective rubber for durability. The extensive ventilation system is easy to access and therefore easy to clean (as well as utilise!), and the double D closure system is straightforward to use once you know how - it's like learning how to tie a tie. Once you know, you know, and it's ultra-secure. The graphics are extremely eye-catching - be safe, be seen, and this also comes with a Just1 helmet bag for protection when not in use.

Negatives

Honestly, I have been around everyone, and we cannot really think of anything. It has a matt finish, so it may not be to your taste, but that's the best we can come up with. I was going to say that matt finish helmets are harder to clean, but with matt polishes etc., available now, this isn't even true anymore! The only other negative we can come up with, and again, this isn't actually a proper negative, is that it is made from thermoplastic. It is extremely safe and lightweight but not as robust nor as light as carbon fibre - but the price reflects this! Maybe the design isn't for you? But is that really a negative? I don't think so.

Verdict

The Just1 J38 Rockstar off-road helmet is incredibly light, has a removable mesh liner to keep you fresh and an adjustable peak. It is eye-catching and features plenty of ventilation - for the price; you really cannot fault it!
