Oneal Rider MX Motorcycle Boots

Safety

Off-road boots are notoriously sturdy. They need to be. The Oneal Rider boots are no exception. Strong injection moulded plastic plates protect against impacts without adding to the weight of the boots while a metal shank insert reinforces the shape of the boot and adds support. The metal toe guard protects the sole against delaminating and the easy to operate. Snap-Lock adjustable four buckle closure system is strong and secure to keep the boots in place - even during heavy use. The durable Goodyear welt sole is properly balanced for no unstable rocking, and a synthetic leather heat shield on the inner leg prevents heat damage. Oneal has produced a substantial boot that will keep your legs and feet protected whilst allowing enough movement for off-roading. A tricky balance.

Styling

The design of the Oneal Rider boot isn't earth-shattering. There is no individual nor unique design feature that makes its design different from all other off-road boots, BUT it does look good. It is muted in its aesthetic with a simple Oneal logo and subtle branding elsewhere. It would be hard to create a completely different design due to the necessary (and proven) buckle placement and other safety features. There is a choice of two colours, Black or White . Oneal also produced a short version which is styled similarly, just, as you guessed, shorter. I am not critical of the Rider design; it's a nice boot, it looks great, but the design is typical of an off-road boot. Don't expect anything different.

Comfort

An air mesh interior provides optimum airflow and keeps your feet and lower legs feeling fresh - especially after a rigorous ride! The generous heel support and cushioned insole give extra comfort, while the adjustability of the Snap-Lock buckles means you can adjust to the fit that is best for you in whatever position you want. The heat shield not only protects you from heat damage but also means you don't get uncomfortably hot in these boots too. Even though the Oneal Rider boots are substantial and sturdy, the protective armour is made from lightweight (yet strong) plastic, so they are more lightweight than you would imagine - easier and comfier when in use. You can also add your own insoles for the ultimate comfort. Accordion detailing at the front and rear of the boots provide great movement when walking and when riding.

Practicality

A rear pull tab gives extra leverage when putting the boots on or pulling them off. A godsend when they are extremely muddy! The Snap-Lock buckles are fully adjustable and therefore can be personalised - they are also replaceable should the worst happen. These buckles are very robust despite their weight, but accidents can happen, and it's nice to know you can get replacements for the straps and the buckles. Elastication at the top of the boots prevents any weather ingress, which avoids discomfort. The soles are ultra-grippy, with a metal protector at the front. Mesh vents keep your feet sweat-free.

Negatives

If you go for the white version, it won't be the easiest job to keep them clean! Aside from this, it's actually a pretty hard job to find any negatives. I have been picking the brains of all our sales team, and it's a very-well received boot all around!

Verdict

A great off-road boot. The Oneal Rider is protective yet lightweight, adjustable yet secure and available in two colours. They are easy to pull on or take off and, with the accordion detailing, are a fantastic boot to wear whilst off-roading or just walking. They are very reasonably priced and definitely worth a look! If you buy the white pair, you may want to make sure you clean after every use to keep them white!

Until next time, stay safe.
