Safety

An AA certification is a good start to a safety check. CE level 2 armour at the knees and also the hips is an even better start! The jeans are made from highly durable denim with POLYMA denim technology for high performance. This provides added abrasion resistance to the Pulse jeans for added safety levels. You can feel the premium quality of the Pulse jeans with a superior denim construction - still more lightweight than heavy Cordura trousers but more substantial than normal non-motorcycle jeans.

Styling

The Pulse jeans are highly fashionable with a slim leg and a classic five-pocket jean styling. The slim leg means these can be worn with all styles of motorcycle boots or "normal" shoes, and the armour is subtle enough to not look "bulky" on the knees or hips. The contrast yellow stitching gives a classic jeans aesthetic too. The dark blue is suitable for all environments and can be dressed up or down.

Comfort

The POLYMA denim technology adds strength to the fabric and gives added elasticity and movement - extremely comfortable on the bike in the riding position. The CE Level 2 armour at the knees and hips is obviously CE standard for superior protection and is also soft with shock absorption for a comfier ride. In addition, the jeans are soft to the touch, not abrasive, and feature belt loops for use with a normal belt.

Practicality

The armour is fully removable - so you can wear just the knees or just the hips - whatever you want. Once the armour is removed, the Pulse jeans are suitable for the washing machine - to keep you feeling fresh - like normal jeans! On the subject of normal jeans, the Red Route Pulse jeans look like non-motorcycle jeans - which is very useful if you're commuting or touring. These convert from the bike to the street seamlessly. Like normal jeans, they can also be dressed up or down for all occasions - with the bonus of being highly protective! The five-pocket design not only looks great but gives you plenty of handy storage too. Available in both short and regular leg lengths.

Negatives

There are not a plethora of negatives, but there are some. First, there is no attachment zip. As these are made from denim, you can easily sew, or get someone to sew, an attachment zip on, but it would have been nice to have this handy feature. Second, these are AA certified, but not AAA certified, which is the better certification, but for £99.99, you can't have it all. Third, POLYMA denim technology is relatively new compared to the proven Covec and Aramid- that isn't to say it isn't as good. Still, it is lesser-known, which could be a negative.

Verdict

The Red Route Red019 Pulse jeans are great jeans for the money. Fashionable, protective, practical and extremely comfortable. Available in our 30 stores nationwide and online - exclusive to J&S Accessories Ltd.
