2022 BSB Round 11 - Brands Hatch
Hi everybody, and welcome to the final racing blog of the 2022 BSB season.
Well, it all came down to the final round of the season. Three races at the Brands Hatch GP circuit. Let's get on with how the action unfolded.
Junior Supersport and the final races in the championship and in qualifying, Oliver Morgan-Edwards would start the first race of the weekend from 28th and Finn Smart-Weeden from 11th place. The first race saw Finn suffer with a DNF, and Oliver moved up a few places to finish in 23rd. The second and final race saw both riders finish; Oliver came home in 22nd and Finn just in front in 21st. So with the season over, Oliver would be 34th overall, and Finn would be 15th overall with 64 points.
Junior Superstock was up next, and qualifying saw Ed Best start the first race of the weekend in 21st place, with Harrison Crosby making his debut in the class with a solid 17th place, Zak Shelton ahead in 13th, but it was the young Australian Jacob Hatch who would start from pole. The first race and bad luck stuck for Jacob, who suffered a DNF; Ed just missed out on a podium place by finishing in 4th place and a great progression through the field. Zak was just behind in 5th place, with Harrison placing well inside the top 10 by coming home in 7th.
The final race of the championship now, and this time it was Ed who suffered with the DNF and not the way he wanted to end the championship. Jacob missed out on points by coming home in 17th place, and Harrison came home in 11th and just outside the top 10 but a great result on a new bike for the weekend. Zak finished in 6th place, and a brilliant way to end his season.
Jacob finished in 22nd overall, Zak in 17th, and Ed in 11th place in the championship standings.
Supersport 600 now, and Harry Truelove being the lone J&S-backed rider in this class, would start the first race of the weekend from 7th position. Unfortunately, Harry would suffer his 4th DNF of the season and fail to finish the first race of the weekend. Harry had better luck in the final race of the season as he finished in a well-earned 4th position.
So 1 win, three 2nd place finishes and six 3rd places saw Harry finish in 3rd position overall in the championship. A great season for Harry, and I’m sure he has plenty of confidence going into the off-season.
Superstock 1000 now, and only one race to round off the championship. Only four J&S-backed riders this weekend. Tom Oliver started the final race of the season from 11th, Joe Francis from 9th and Tom Ward in the middle of the second row in 5th, but once again, it was Billy McConnell who would start from pole position for the final race of the year.
Race day and Tom Oliver would finish in 12th, just outside the top 10, but a great result to say it was only his second ride on the Aprilia bike; Joe finished in 9th in the final race and gained a few more championship points to add to his tally. Tom Ward finished just off the podium in 4th place, but again Billy McConnell crossed the finish line to round off his season with a 4th win of the year.
A great season of racing from this class, with plenty of podiums and wins for the J&S-supported riders. But the championship ended with Matt Truelove down in 28th overall, Tom Oliver in 26th, Joe Francis in 14th, Lewis Rollo in 9th, Charlie Nesbitt in 8th, Tom Ward in 6th on the Aprilia and Billy McConnell in 2nd and yet again just missing out on the championship.
Superbike class now, and it was all to fight for. A rain-affected qualifying session saw it finish early as rain fell during the final minutes. But Leon Jeacock would start from 25th, Charlie Nesbitt making another appearance on the Suzuki from 20th, but Glenn got his weekend off to the best start possible and start from pole position for the first race of the weekend.
Race one and Leon finished in 18th place, Charlie came home in 11th and just outside the top 10, but Glenn had the perfect race, lead from the start, set the fastest lap and the race win, so 25 points in the bag, but unfortunately Brad Ray finished high enough to claim the 2022 championship.
Race two saw Leon finish in 19th place, Charlie crept into the top 10 with a solid 8th place finish, and yet again, Glenn stood on the podium and took 3rd place.
So the final race of the season and nothing to lose as the championship had been decided. Leon once again finished in 18th and just outside the points; Charlie, this time, missed out on a top 10 by coming home in 12th, but once again, Glenn showed great pace and took his second win of the weekend. So no championship for Glenn this year but 5 wins, 1 second-place finish, and four 3rd places rounds off a great season for Glenn.
Charlie finished 21st overall and scored points in all the races he finished in. Leon didn’t manage to score any points, along with Dan Jones, who had terrible luck with injuries. The same can be said for Luke Mossey, who switched teams and also had bad luck with injuries too. Glenn finished 2nd overall and only 21 points behind the championship leader; Glenn scored points in all but three races during the whole season.
So that’s it; 2022 is done and dusted plenty of great action throughout the whole racing season in all the classes that we cover with the J&S riders.
So until 2023, thanks for reading and sticking with us through the year.
All the best, and thanks
Danny
