2022 BSB Round 7 - Cadwell Park

Hi everyone, welcome back to another round-up of racing action. The bank holiday weekend saw the British Superbike Championship roll into Lincolnshire and the fan favourite Cadwell Park.

Junior Superstock was up first, and in qualifying, all the J&S-backed riders were close together on the grid for the only race of the weekend. Zak Shelton qualified in 19th  place, with Osian Jones just behind in 20th, while Ed Best was the highest qualifier in 16th place.

The race on Monday saw Osian, unfortunately, was forced off the track in an incident at the start of the race and had to retire. Meanwhile, Zak got the better of Ed in the race, with Zak finishing in the 13th position with Ed behind in the 14th.

British Supersport now and Harry Truelove had a mixed weekend; qualifying saw Harry start from 2nd on the grid for the sprint race on Sunday. So the sprint race saw a race-long battle between Harry and the championship leader Jack Kennedy. After the 12 laps, Harry got the better of Jack and pulled out a gap of 3 seconds by the end of the race, and he took his first race win of the season. But the second race of the weekend saw the total opposite in the term of results for Harry as he suffered his first DNF of the season. But that’s the highs and lows of racing. I’m sure Harry will dust himself off for the next round.

Once again, in the Superstock 1000 class, Billy McConnell put his Honda on pole position for the only race of the weekend. Charlie Nesbitt starts on the outside of the front row in 3rd place; Tom Ward would start from 7th on the grid, with Joe Francis on the outside of row 3 in 9th. Lewis Rollo would start from the 13th. Aprilia rider Matt Truelove started from the 18th position.

The race on Sunday saw Joe not finish the race after a problem with the bike, which saw him crash out. The rest of the J&S-backed riders all scored points, and all had great results. Matt Truelove finished in 13th place, Lewis Rollo improved and moved up to cross the line and finish in 7th position, with Tom Ward just in front in 6th. But it was a double podium finish, with Billy McConnell and Charlie Nesbitt both standing on the podium, with Billy finishing in 3rd place and Charlie taking the race win.

Billy now leads the championship by 20 points.

Superbike class now, and one rider who missed racing this weekend was Luke Mossey, who gave the weekend a miss after suffering the crash last time out at Thruxton. Qualifying saw a change for the race weekend as the one-lap Superpole came back for the top 15 riders from the qualifying sessions. Dan Jones started the first race of the weekend down in 29th place, Leon Jeacock from 25th, showdown contender Glenn Irwin made it into Superpole and would start from 10th on the grid.

The first race saw a hectic start for Dan Jones, who had a massive crash coming over the ‘Mountain’ section of the track as Lee Jackson came off at the Mountain and his bike was left in the middle of the track; Dan was unseated with riders trying to avoid the stricken Kawasaki, Dan was very unlucky and rode straight into the bike in the middle of the track, and he was thrown over the handlebars with some force. Dan was flown to the hospital via helicopter for checks, and thankfully we can say that he was discharged and back at the track the next day. Dan was lucky to only have the following injuries a broken collarbone, bruised lungs, and bleeding on his hip and a mild concussion. Thankfully Dan’s Frank Thomas race suit and his helmet did a fantastic job and did what it was meant to do and helped him luckily only sustain the injuries listed above. In the restart of the race, Leon finished in 21st, and Glenn finished in the 9th position.

In the second race of the weekend and Leon finished in 23rd, and again Glenn bagged a top 10 finish by coming home in 9th again.

In the third and final race, and Leon had a DNF while Glenn finished in 8th place but was in a group of riders that were only separated by 1.5 seconds.

So that’s all from me for the time being the racing continues this weekend, this time from Snetterton over the weekend of 9th – 11th of September.

Thanks for reading.

Danny
