2022 BSB Round 8 - Snetterton
Hi everyone, and welcome back to the latest instalment of racing action from myself. Racing this weekend came from the Snetterton circuit all the way down in Norfolk.
A mixed weekend of emotions after the sad news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, racing went ahead for the full weekend with just a few changes to the schedule.
Luke Mossey would miss the racing this weekend after aggravating his shoulder injury from the previous round. Luke did attempt qualifying, but with mixed weather and ever-changing track conditions, a small high-side during qualifying, which Luke managed to save and stay on the bike, once again damaged his shoulder and meant that he had to sit out the whole weekend as a precaution.
Honda Talent Cup firstly and a packed week for Sullivan Mounsey, who was lucky enough to be invited to take part in the Red Bull Rookies selection process for next season. Sadly Sullivan didn’t make it to the final day, so it was a quick flight back to the UK and back to domestic championship racing for the weekend.
Qualifying saw Sullivan have some bad luck with bike issues which would see him start from 31st place, Alfie Davidson would start from 24th, with Harrison Crosby on the outside of the front row in 3rd position.
The first race this weekend saw Alfie improve to finish in 23rd place, while Sullivan moved up a stunning 16 places to grab the final point by coming home in 15th place, while Harrison had a lonely race and was all on his own in 3rd position.
The second race would see Sullivan suffer a DNF and not finish the race, Alfie just outside the top 20 with a 21st place finish, and again Harrison finished in 3rd, but this time only just missed out on 2nd place in the race.
Junior Superstock up next, and Jacob Hatch took a surprise pole position in a wet qualifying session with Zak Shelton in 10th, with Ed Best starting from 13th place. The only race this weekend for the Junior Superstock class saw Jacob not be able to finish the race and suffer a DNF, while Zak and Ed both scored good points, with Zak finishing in 8th and Ed in front in 6th position.
In the Junior Supersport class, Oliver Morgan-Edwards had a great qualifying session and started from 6th place on the grid for the first race of the weekend. Finn Smart Weeden would start from 23rd. The race saw both riders have DNFs next to their name. The second race was much better, with Oliver coming home in 19th place and Finn coming home inside the top 10 with a 9th place finish.
Supersport class and mixed conditions in the qualifying session, which saw Harry Truelove start from 10th on the grid for the first race on Saturday. Harry was involved in a race-long battle with a group of riders for the final podium place, but he, unfortunately, missed out and finished in 4th position.
The second race of the weekend saw Harry, unfortunately, suffer a DNF and didn’t score any points.
Superstock 1000 now and again another packed grid, Matt Truelove started from 18th, Joe Francis in 15th, Lewis Rollo in 11th place, while Tom Ward would start from 7th on the third row of the grid, Billy McConnell in 5th in the middle of the second row and Charlie Nesbitt in 4th position.
The race started, and it was utter carnage from the opening lap, with Billy McConnell and Lewis Rollo both caught up in the same accident on the opening lap. Matt suffered a DNF, while Charlie crashed out at the final chicane after the front of the bike tucked under him after the front tyre slid on some dirt from a rider in front of him. So it was left to Tom and Joe to carry the flag for the J&S-backed riders to score championship points. Tom finished in 9th place after working his way back through the field after also being caught up in the first lap accident, and Joe came home in a brilliant 7th.
Superbike class, and this round was the last chance for riders to claim a place at the end-of-season showdown and a chance to fight for the title. Qualifying for the first race saw Glenn start from 4th while Leon was down in 25th. In the first race, Glenn ran on at the end of the back straight and saw him drop down back the field after holding a solid 4th place. Glenn composed himself and made it back up to 9th by the end of the race. Leon made his way up to 17th place by the time the race had finished. That 9th place for Glenn was enough to secure his place in the showdown and a chance to win the BSB title.
Race two and Leon had a DNF, while Glenn just missed out on a podium and came home in 4th position.
The third race saw Leon just miss out on the final point scoring place by coming home in 16th, but the race ended in controversy for Glenn as after the race, he was handed a two-second time penalty for allegedly passing the safety car on the restart of the race. In his defence, Glenn was following the leading two riders and was keeping pace at the front as he should do. The other two riders were also handed time penalties, but it pushed Glenn down to 4th and missed out on a podium place.
So that’s from me for now, but the next round takes place this weekend at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire, and only a stone's throw away from our main J&S Accessories store in Oakmere .
So until then, thanks for reading.
