Isle of Man TT 2022
Hi everyone, a bit of an extra blog from myself. Well, it’s back and back in a big way. The Isle Of Man TT races finally returns after the last event was held back in 2019 the road racing community has been waiting for this day to come. We had a little warm-up and pre-event with the North West 200 being held a few weeks ago. But this is the one all the riders want to add to the CV. Even just taking part is enough for some riders, even going is a bucket list moment for some motorcycling fans, I’ll admit it is something that I’ve always wanted to experience but not had the chance just yet.
So around 30 miles long by 10 miles wide, and a population of around 87,000, what makes the TT so special and what makes thousands upon thousands of fans from all around the world make the pilgrimage to the tiny little island floating around in the middle of the Irish sea??
Well, it’s a festival for 2 weeks during the last few days of May and the first couple of weeks in June. The first event was held in 1907 and has been a mainstay ever since with only a handful of events being cancelled due to war, epidemics and pandemics.
6 days of qualifying spread over the first week and then race week from the 4th to the 10th of June. Various different classes and bikes are on display over the course of the event from lightweight 650cc Supertwin bikes, to fully kitted out 1000cc Superbikes, the TT even has a place for the 3 wheeled sidecars.
Glenn Irwin is making his debut this year at the famous ‘Mountain course’ and has made it clear that he’s not out looking for wins, just there to enjoy the experience and build for a possible return next year. He’s got the best teammate that he could ask for in 23 times a TT winner John McGuinness.
So it all starts on Sunday 29th May with practice laps for the newcomers at 1.30pm, let’s hope for a fantastic 2 weeks of racing and brilliant weather for the whole period too.
Be sure to keep an eye on all the social media channels for updates on how Glenn is getting on and also the results blog coming up at the end of the event.
