J&S Supported Rider Results - Round 3 Brands Hatch

Hi everyone, and welcome back to the latest instalment of my British Superbike round-up for our supported riders. This weekend the racing came from Brands Hatch and the longer GP circuit.

Sullivan Mounsey had a great weekend and qualified in the top 10 with a 9th place start for this first race of the weekend. However, a solid race for Sullivan saw him come home in 7th place and grab a handful of championship points. Sullivan started the second race of the weekend in 9th position again, and at the end of the race, he managed to hold on and finish in the top10 with a solid 9th place finish.

In Junior Superstock, we saw Louis Valleley and a return to the class for Caolan Irwin. Louis qualified in 26th place, and Caolan would start from 7th place on the grid. Thus, only one race for the Junior Superstock class this weekend and, unfortunately, no points this weekend as a DNF for Caolan and a 29th place finish Louis meant a disappointing weekend for the J&S backed riders.

Superstock 1000 saw two races this weekend, and qualifying saw Luke Mossey start from the front row in 2nd place, IN Competition rider and race winner Fraser Rogers in 3rd with teammate Ben Luxton in 26th place, Billy McConnell in the middle of the second row with a 5th place start. Lewis Rollo starting down in 14th position.

The first race saw Luke Mossey take the lead halfway through the first lap, and the Kawasaki rider never looked back and took the race win, a great result for Luke after a spot of bad luck last time out at Knockhill. Behind Luke was Fraser Rogers with a fine ride for 2nd place, teammate Ben Luxton had a DNF next to his name for the first race. After being forced off track, Lewis Rollo fought back to come home in 14th place and grab a couple of championship points. Billy McConnell had a solid start but dropped back to come home in 6th position.

Race two saw Luke Mossey start from pole, with Fraser Rogers in 2nd, Billy in 9th, Lewis 14th and Ben Luxton in 34th. Unfortunately, a technical fault halted Luke Mossey, and he had a DNF next to his name, Another DNF for Ben Luxton, which ended a torrid weekend for the Aprilia rider. Lewis Rollo climbed a few places to cross the finish line in 11th place. Billy McConnell gained another podium place and regained the championship lead with a 3rd place finish. Fraser Rogers stood on the podium again for the IN Competition Aprilia team with another 2nd place. Billy retains his championship lead going into the next round of the championship.

In Supersport and GP2, we had Dan Jones qualify in 19th place on his GP2 machine with Rhys Irwin in 12th

With Ben Currie in the middle of the second row in 5th place. The first race saw Dan Jones cross the line in 10th overall but 5th in the GP2 standings.  Rhys had a solid race and came home in 5th in the Supersport standings, and just in front was Ben Currie, who missed out on a podium place with a 4th position overall.

The second and final race of the weekend for the Supersport class saw Rhys Irwin cross the line in 11th place but meant a 9th place finish in the Supersport classification; Ben just missed out on a third-place finish to his teammate, but progress is always being made by the Aussie rider who scored a solid 4th place result in the final race. Dan Jones in the GP2 class finished 12th overall, but it was enough for him to claim 3rd place in the GP2 results, which meant a podium spot for the young rider and his first of the season.

Superbike saw a mixed weekend for all the J&S backed riders. All the supported riders made it into the shoot out for pole position, with Gino Rea starting from 16th place, just behind Joe Francis, who was in 15th place, with Glenn Irwin outside the third row in 9th place. A restarted first race after a red flag for an accident which involved Brad Jones, who was transported to the hospital for treatment. Here’s hoping for a quick recovery for Brad. A rapid pace for the 12 laps saw Gino pull into the pits with a technical issue midway through the race. Joe had a solid result, but just outside the points in 18th place, Glenn was away with the main pack and leading group, but as the race went on, Glenn dropped back to finish in 11th position.

Race two and Joe had a DNF next to his name, with Gino scoring more points with a 10th place finish and Glenn building on a solid weekend and improving all the time and finished in 8th place.

The third and final race of the weekend and more bad luck for Gino, who had a mechanical issue with his bike on the track, caused a red flag. Joe did well to finish in 17th place, a tough weekend for the BMW team. Glenn equalled his best finish of the season with a 6th place finish and will undoubtedly be pleased with that and hoping to continue his good form next time out.

Well, that’s all for this weekend. The next round, which comes from the super-fast Thruxton track, is held over the weekend of 30th July – 1st August.

So until then, stay safe and thanks for reading.

Danny
