J&S Supported Rider Results - Round 6 Cadwell Park

Hi everyone, and welcome back to my blog with all the results and action from this weekends racing. This weekend the racing came from Lincolnshire and the Cadwell Park track. Fan and rider favourite with the notorious ‘Mountain’ section, and the tight and narrow layout, this track always provides action from start to finish.

Let’s start with Junior Supersport, Louis Valleley and Caolan Irwin once again in this support class. Qualifying saw Louis start from 16th with Caolan the row behind in 20th place.

The only race for the Junior Supersport riders saw Louis cross the line and drop down to 20th place; meanwhile, Caolan stormed through the field and came home in an amazing 7th place! A great result for the Irish rider.

Only one race in the Superstock 1000 class this weekend. With J&S riders locking out most of the front row in qualifying with Fraser Rogers on the IN Competition Aprilia, Billy McConnell and his OMG Racing BMW behind in 3rd with Luke Mossey on the front of the second row in 4th place, Lewis Rollo was down in 21st place.

The race was restarted, but unfortunately, Luke Mossey was taken out and unable to participate in the restart. His team managed to fix his bike, but due to the unique layout of the paddock at Cadwell Park, Luke was unable to take his place on the grid.

The race restarted, and by the time all the laps had been completed, a fantastic ride from Lewis Rollo saw the Scotsman charge through the field to finish in a fantastic 8th place. Fraser Rogers just missed out on another podium place after coming home in 4th place. Still, it was the Aussie again Billy McConnell who stood on the podium's final step with another solid 3rd place. Billy now sits in 3rd place in the championship but is only 15 points off the lead.

In Supersport and GP2, a good qualifying session saw all the J&S backed riders set fast enough for the first four rows. Rhys Irwin qualified in 11th place, with Dan Jones in 9th on his GP2 bike, Kawasaki rider Ben Currie started on the front row in 2nd place for the first-weekend race.

The first race was eventful, to say the least, with both Dan Jones and Rhys Irwin crashing late in the final laps whilst good points-scoring positions. But it was Ben Currie who battled hard to finish in 3rd place and secure another podium place.

The second race saw Rhys have another DNF, but better luck this time for Dan, who came home in 7th overall, but that was good enough to secure a 2nd place finish in the GP2 standings.  Ben again stood on the podium, but this time, one step higher, he came home in 2nd place and boosted his championship hopes. Ben now lies in 3rd place in the championship but only 6 points off the lead.

All 3 J&S backed riders completed qualifying in the Superbike class, but Joe Francis was declared unfit to race and sat out all three races of the weekend. Gino started from 12th for the first-weekend race on Saturday, but the Honda rider Glenn Irwin stuck his Fireblade on the pole. After taking the lead early on, Glenn made a great start, but a problem with his bike and tyre wear meant that he dropped back, and he managed to come home in 4th place. Gino slipped off and crashed out of the race.

The second race saw Gino have another DNF as his weekend went from bad to worse. Glenn again rode well and came home in 6th place.

The third and final race of the weekend saw Gino come home in 11th place after a solid race and bag himself a handful of championship points. Glenn again crossed the line in 6th place and took another step towards cementing his place in the top 8 of the season's showdown.

So that’s all for this weekend. The next round of the championship is in two weeks on the 3rd-5th of September from the Snetterton circuit.

So until then, thanks for reading and stay safe.

Danny
