Start by measuring around the widest part of your head, just above your eyebrows and around the back of your skull. Once you have your measurement, compare it with the size guide for the helmet brand you’re looking at, as sizing can vary between manufacturers. A good ladies motorcycle helmet should feel snug all the way around without causing painful pressure points. It should not lift, wobble or move freely when you shake your head. If you’re unsure of your current helmet size feel free to pop into one of our stores and our colleagues can help measure your helmet size.

There is no single average helmet size for all women, as head shape and measurement can vary a lot. Many women will sit somewhere around a small or medium, but the best size is always the one that matches your actual head measurement and feels secure when worn.

The right helmet depends on how and where you ride. A full face helmet gives the most coverage, making it a popular choice for everyday riding, commuting, touring and faster road use. An open face helmet gives a more classic, lightweight feel, but offers less face and chin coverage. A flip front helmet gives you a mix of both, with a chin bar that can be lifted when you are stopped or off the bike.
-
A ladies motorcycle helmet should feel firm and secure from the moment you put it on. It may feel slightly tight at first, but it should not feel painful or create sharp pressure on your forehead, temples or jaw. When fastened, the helmet should stay in place if you gently move your head from side to side or up and down. Your cheeks should be held by the padding, and the helmet should move with your head rather than sliding around it.

Look for a helmet that suits your riding style, fits securely and meets the correct UK road safety standards. Helmets worn on UK roads must meet approved standards such as UNECE Regulation 22.05 or 22.06.
